چکیده

A large-scale spanwise and wall-normal array of sonic anemometers in the atmospheric surface layer is used to acquire all three components instantaneous fluctuating velocity as well temperature a range stability conditions. These data permit investigation three-dimensional statistical structure turbulence structures. The present work extends view self-similar wall-attached structures under unstable near-neutral conditions, includes both directions relation streamwise wavelength. Results suggest that have similar aspect ratios between streamwise/wall-normal scales streamwise/spanwise such $\lambda_x/\Delta z : \lambda_x/\Delta y \approx 1$ for By analysing phase shift synchronized measurements, spectral domain, it quantified how inclination angle varies with stability. Under most coherent $\lambda_x/\delta = are inclined at angles high $65^\circ$ relative solid boundary, while larger 6$ exhibit approximately $35^\circ$. For tends towards $12^\circ$ scales. It noted condition, ratio -- thus modeling ASL highly sensitive value parameter.

Polarization-based Decorrelation of Transparent Layers: The Inclination Angle of an Invisible Surface

When a transparent surface is present between an observer and an object, an image reflected by the surface may be superimposed on the image of the observed object. We present a new approach to recover the scenes (layers) and to classify which is the reflected/transmitted one, based on imaging through a polarizing filter at two orientations. Estimates of the separate layers are obtained by weigh...

Dynamics of interfaces and layers in a stratified turbulent fluid

This paper formulates a model of mixing in a stratified and turbulent fluid. The model uses the horizontally averaged vertical buoyancy gradient and the density of turbulent kinetic energy as variables. Heuristic ‘mixing-length’ arguments lead to a coupled set of parabolic differential equations. A particular form of mechanical forcing is proposed; for certain parameter values the relationship ...

Large-scale amplitude modulation of the small-scale structures in turbulent boundary layers

In this paper we investigate the relationship between the largeand small-scale energy-containing motions in wall turbulence. Recent studies in a high-Reynoldsnumber turbulent boundary layer (Hutchins & Marusic, Phil. Trans. R. Soc. Lond. A, vol. 365, 2007a, pp. 647–664) have revealed a possible influence of the largescale boundary-layer motions on the small-scale near-wall cycle, akin to a pure...

Wind-tunnel simulation of stably stratified atmospheric boundary layers

Results are presented of simulations of a stable boundary layer of moderate surface condition and zero overlying inversion strength. The layer depth is matched to model scale by artificially thickening the boundary layer by means of flow generators (‘spires’) at the working-section inlet. A non-uniform inlet temperature profile is essential in order to preclude the upper part of the layer retai...
